Our Programme
The Healthy Lifestyles programme will provide support for tamariki and rangatahi who want to improve their personal health, nutrition and fitness.
Our Programme
We are proud to provide a kaupapa Māori service that helps rangatahi (15-18yrs) and tamariki (2-14yrs) and their whānau achieve wellbeing with a focus on maintaining long term physical health.
This is not just about weight management, it’s about finding sustainable, positive and achievable wellbeing that works for the individual and their whānau.
Key components of the programme include:
Whānau Ora Plans
Nutrition Workshops
Exercise Physiology and Movement Workshops
Resilience Workshops
GP Medical Services.
Whānau Ora Plan
The Whānau Ora plan will be for the individual and wider whānau that designs the overall pathway for the tamariki and rangatahi to achieve a healthier lifestyle.
We can link tamariki and rangatahi with other helpful services, for example training or driver licence programmes and meeting the needs of the wider whānau.
Nutrition Workshops
Nutrition Plans will be individually customised for the whānau based on needs and budget working with local nutritionists. Cooking workshops will also be available.
The nutrition component will also draw form knowledge gained from research on Enhancing the Cultural Reproduction of Kai and collaborating with our partners at Toi Tangata.
Exercise Physiology & Movement Workshops
A physical movement and clinical exercise physiology programme will also be customised to the individual tamariki and rangatahi, working with exercise physiologists. We will also draw on the expertise at Sport Bay of Plenty and collaborate with Toi Tangata.
Resilience Workshops
For the best outcome, we need to support tamariki and rangitahi with all of their needs, both personal and environmental.
We have resillience, well-being and rangatiratanga programmes to help with this. Resilience sessions such as counselling and mana tangata allows the development of identity and personal strength to achieve greater wellbeing.
These programmes will be flexible to incorporate whakapapa/identity and Mana Atua Narratives, rongoa Māori remedies too.
All resilience programmes are designed to meet cultural and medical needs.
Medical Services
All our tamariki and rangatahi will able to access medical services and receive specialist referrals if required. We will also collaborate with existing GPs and specialists in place.
How It Works
The three hubs (Ngāti Ranginui Iwi, Ngā Kākano Foundation and Te Puna Ora O Mataatua) will deliver this service across the Bay of Plenty communities, in collaboration with other providers and services.
We work with tamarki/rangatahi intensively over three months, and then they move to a longer-term management programme.
